This book is a compilation of the research report of a joint Sino-Dutch cooperation project on Sustainable Groundwater Resources Development in Northwest China. The project was implemented from 2000 to 2002. the book reflects the state of art strategies and techniques of groundwater exploration and development in arid areas. It identified present problems and issues regarding groundwater development in Northwest China and formulated possible solutions for sustainable groundwater development in the future. New technologies in groundwater exploration, development in the future. New technologies in groundwater exploration, development and management were introduced, including Groundwater Chemistry, Geophysical Methods, Remote Sensing and Groundwater Modelling. A case study on the Urumqi River Basin was used to demonstrate the application of new technologies. This book is also a good reference for postgraduate students and university lectures in studying and teaching Hydrogeology in arid areas.
